This past Saturday marked 27 weeks pregnant with Baby H. Admittedly, I haven’t been doing a great job of documenting this pregnancy and there’s a huge part of me that feels like I should. This is our first little one, after all!
HOW I’M FEELING //
I’ve been super fortunate this entire pregnancy to rarely experience really bad days. In the first trimester, I was nauseous now and then (but only actually got sick once). All of that is behind me now, and my energy has picked up quite a bit.
As we’ve neared the end of the second trimester, a few new symptoms have kicked in, though. The stretching skin has me itchy all over, all the time, and the pregnancy insomnia is real y’all! The muscle aches are starting to get to me, too. I know it’s only going to get worse, so I just keep reminding myself that our little girl is SO worth any of the discomfort today.
WORKOUTS + NUTRITION //
I have a love-hate relationship with the gym right now. Some days I’m just incredibly exhausted (like today) and struggle to motivate. Other days, I look forward to moving around a little. I’m scaling the intensity, volume, and movements to accommodate the changes in my body. Any abs or jumping is out (I strained a muscle in my lower abdomen a few weeks back – a clear sign I needed to slow down!). Squat stance is wider. Weights are lower. The goal now is to just keep showing up 3-4 days a week through the end of this pregnancy.
Nutrition is not without its challenges, too. Some days I just want to eat all the carbs. Others are a struggle to eat everything I have planned (although those days are less frequent haha). Thankfully, I’ve got an amazing coach helping guide me through it all. She’s a total rockstar – I’d be WAY over my weight-gain targets if it weren’t for her support on the roughest days!
GETTING READY //
The nursery is in progress (more on that below), we’ve locked in a spot at a nearby daycare, our hospital tour is scheduled, we’re registered for all of our new baby classes, and we think we’ve picked a pediatrician. With a lot of the big items crossed off our list, we can shift our focus to shopping for all the things we need to welcome this little girl into our house and enjoy the last few months as a family of two (four if you count the fur babies).
NURSERY PREVIEW //
I have loved seeing the nursery start to come together over the past few weeks. C and I definitely want to have more kids, so one of our goals in designing the nursery was to ensure a lot of the bigger investments would work for our little girl or a little boy in the future. We’ve opted for neutral pieces with pink accents that we can use in Baby H’s room as she grows up too.
Picking a paint color was quite the experience! We knew we wanted grey – I just didn’t know how hard choosing one would turn out to be! After 8 paint samples, one full coat of a color we didn’t end up loving, and a complete repaint, I’ve finally got exactly the color we wanted.
Decorating the nursery is turning out to be one part online shopping, one part DIY projects. A lot of the more simple decor, like this dresser, the shelves, and the picture frames, were bought at IKEA. C spray painted the shelf brackets gold to match, and we’ll be swapping the hardware on the dresser for a custom touch. Left on the DIY list include altering curtains (this room has amazing, but HUGE windows), putting together floral garland for above the crib, and sewing the mobile (that project may be a little more ambitious than I originally planned…). I’m sure we’ll come up with a lot more to do between now and April, though.
My mom also saved some of my favorite toys from when I was a kid, like this old fashioned Piglet toy (with “stitches” I gave him when he ripped) and my first Madame Alexander doll. I’m so happy to get to display them in baby girl’s room!
The crib we picked out arrives tomorrow – eek! I see a lot of furniture construction and hanging of pictures in our weekend plans…
I know we’ve got a few mamas-to-be out there, so I’ve linked up all of my favorites at the bottom of the post.
