The response to our DIY fabric masks with filter pockets has been amazing – you can check out the original tailored-looking version here, and the simplified version here. I’ve loved seeing the masks everyone has created, whether for themselves, family members, or to donate to first responders and other essential workers. And, we’ve received requests to share where to buy mask fabric and other supplies while fabric and craft stores are closed – so today, we’re sharing our favorite sources!
Note: Some of the links below are affiliate links, which means we get a small commission if you purchase from them. That doesn’t increase the price to you, and we’ve worked hard to find the most affordable listing options!
ELASTIC
Elastic has been one of the hardest materials to come by – most stores are completely sold out. We’ve had a lot of luck purchasing off eBay, and rounded up a few of the listings that have been recommended by sewers (below).
FABRIC
The other most common question I’ve been receiving? Where are we getting our fabric, with so many shops closed?
Joann Fabrics has several stores in our area, a few of which are still open for pickup orders only. You can browse on their website and order online, then pull up in their drive-up queue when your order is ready. Processing in our area is currently taking 1-2 business days. When searching their site, sort by price and click “pick up in store” to find the best deals. Make sure they’re available at your store – not everything is!
Fabric.com has thousands of choices, although their shipping can take a week or more right now. I love their Cotton + Steel and Rifle Paper Company fabrics – so pretty!
Etsy is currently one of my favorite places to purchase fabric from. You can purchase pre-cut rectangles (many even come in 9×15, which is perfect for both of our mask styles!) and you get the added benefit of supporting small businesses!
A few of my favorite fabric finds are linked below.
