Let’s be honest – as adorable as it is, getting an 18 month old to wear a costume on Halloween is incredibly difficult. Rather than fight E on a mask she didn’t want to wear or something warm or itchy, we went the DIY route. The only requirements? It needed to look and feel like her everyday comfy clothes. This 90’s aerobics instructor outfit was incredibly easy to execute on (Thanks, Amazon!) and she kept everything on all night! Win!
We started with a cheap sweatshirt from Walmart that I cut – trimming off the bottom, cutting the arms to short sleeves, and expanding the neck for an off-the-shoulder look. How fun would it have been to start with a blank sweatshirt and add a 90’s workout class logo using heat transfer vinyl though?!? I also love this neon option.
Every 90’s workout queen needs neon accessories, so next we picked two bright colors to build the outfit around. One color was used for the sweatbands and matching tights and a second contrasting color was chosen for the leg warmers.
We didn’t want the outfit to be too loud, so we stuck with a black leotard we already owned it from gymnastics (but this one is incredibly affordable!).
This boombox lunchbox and kids dumbbell set were what really finished off the look, though!
