A (somewhat) recent Pinterest feature is shoppable pins, where Pinterest provides links to similar items for home decor, fashion, and other pins with products. To the Pinterest user, the links can be valuable when you’re replicating a look for yourself. To a blogger, influencer, or small business, the Pinterest generated links can mean lost income – if someone shops the Pinterest links rather than clicking through to the source, that sale is lost.
Clicking on the tag on the bottom left, you’ll see the shoppable options which then appear as white dots on the pin.
It will then pull up a set of links, right, that are not necessarily the exact items.
So how do you, as a blogger, influencer, or small business owner, remove the shoppable links and replace them with your own?
At the bottom left, you’ll see these items are ones I’ve tagged, with affiliate links.
Before we proceed, there are three limitations you need to be aware of before using this feature:
- You have to have a Pinterest Business account.
- The pin has to originate on your claimed domain. Pins from other sites, such as liketoknow.it, will not work.
- You cannot use shortened links developed through sites like bit.ly or tiny.url. Rstyle links will work, as well as longer ShopStyle links. Ensure you’re in compliance with affiliate program rules before doing this, though!
INSTRUCTIONS
1 // Navigate to the pin you’d like to change and click the tag in the upper left.
2 // A window will pop up to create a new product pin. Select “URL”.
3 // In a separate window, open up the affiliate link program you use or your website, if you run a small business.
4 // Paste in the product URL, select the correct product image, and click “save product”.
5 // The product will then show up linked to the pin. Add all items in the picture and click “Done”.
The Pinterest shoppable suggestions are gone, and now you can see your link there!
