Anyone else binge watched all of “Dream Home Makeover” on Netflix already? The living room featured on episode 1 is my new obsession. I love how bright yet moody the room is, with different textures that give off that polished-yet-cozy vibe. I would love to recreate that same feel in our small living room, but could never justify $1,000+ per chair (no matter how stunning they are!).
So, let’s take that inspiration and pull together a “look for less” – similar items at major savings – to make this look more accessible.
LIVING SPACE
The living space of this remodel is so perfectly effortless. The rug used in the room is actually really affordable (part of the Studio McGee collection for Target) but has iffy reviews. For the same price, you can get this rug with more than 3,000 five star reviews, or our favorite – a durable Ruggable!
The McGee & Co custom sofa costs $3,200, however you can order a similar linen sofa for $300 (!!) or this sleeper sofa for less than $500.
The chair featured by Studio McGee is both stunning and incredibly well made – and costs $1,760 per chair! Grab a similar chair in faux cognac leather for less than $200 or a fabric version with nearly identical arms to the McGee version for even less.
The modern rattan coffee table/ottoman can be hard to source. You can pick up a similar sized table that brings the same natural warmth here or an airy metal option here (a great solid alternative to rattan).
Don’t forget the accessories and lighting elements! Our favorites, with plenty of Studio McGee-esque style, are below.
DINING SPACE
When we redid our tiny eat-in kitchen, we purchased similar chairs to the ones used in this Studio McGee remodel and paired them with a wood table. I love the contrast between the two, and pairing the dark chairs with a light table keeps everything from looking too dark or tonal.
The original McGee & Co chairs retail for $360 each, or you can buy a similar pair for less than $200 for two!
Their white oak extension table is just the right size for most homes, however the $3,200 price tag can be a limiter! This alternative has a similar look for under $700.
Studio McGee finished off the dining area on the show with a linear light fixture in brass, which costs over $1,000 on their website. This light fixture is nearly identical and less than $400, or you can get a similar look with this fixture on sale from Rejuvenation.
The dining room is capped off by a gorgeous black glass china cabinet that retails for nearly $3,000 plus shipping. You can get an equally stunning piece for half the price at Pottery Barn.
