Tailwind is by far my favorite tool for driving website traffic. After just two weeks of use, my Pinterest views have increased by more than 25,000 views, and the website traffic from Pinterest has tripled!
WHAT IS TAILWIND?
Tailwind is a Pinterest scheduler, which allows you to draft rich text pins (think: great descriptions and links back to exactly where you want them to go) and schedule them at times for prime engagement. Then you just sit back and Tailwind posts them to the board(s) of your choice!
It also offers an analytics panel which allows you to track how your pins, boards, and profile are performing. You can easily take your top performing pins and repin them from here, rapidly increasing your traffic.
THE FEATURE YOU NEED TO BE USING
The best feature of Tailwind is the Tribes feature. Think of Tailwind Tribes as a great way to drive authentic engagement on your pins, while also finding great ideas and tips that interest you.
Once you join a Tribe, you’ll see a huge list of pins that other people in that tribe have shared with the Tribe. In most cases, the rules of the Tribe state you need to repin two pins from someone else for every one pin you share. Of course, posting unique, interesting content that other pinners want to share with their audiences is key to getting repins.
There are hundreds of tribes for beauty, beauty bloggers, small businesses – everything and anything you could imagine! If you’re a direct sales lady, I’d love to have you join our exclusive Lippie Ladies: Build Your Empire tribe!

HOW TO SUCCEED WITH TAILWIND
Success on Tailwind is dependent on two factors.
1. HIGH QUALITY CONTENT
Look for the fire symbol for posts that are getting a lot of attention. This will tell you the type of content that appeals most to your tribe, and other Pinterest users (it aggregates all traffic that pin has received).
You’ll notice these posts all have a few things in common:
- They use high-quality, original images. Use bright, detailed images that grab someone’s interest.
- They have overlaid text from an editor like Canva. Canva is a free resource with great Pinterest-ready layouts that always do well on Tailwind.
- The images are vertically aligned. If you’re not using Canva’s Pinterest layouts, try to stick to vertical images. Pinterest uses a column layout, so horizontal images get shrunk down. Vertical images are given more screen real estate, and thus, are more likely to be viewed.
- They have detailed descriptions full of keywords. Pinterest relies on search analytics to pull content, so take advantage of it. Rather than using the text “LipSense”, try something more descriptive like, “Tips for applying Bella LipSense, a must-have lip color for fall.” You’ll catch users who are searching for “Bella” “Fall lip color” “LipSense” and more!
- They link to value-added content. If the description looks like you’re selling something, chances are, people won’t repin. Link to a Facebook post in your group where you share advice on using your favorite sunless tanner (with a link to purchase from there, of course) then add a description like “Foolproof strategies for the perfect self tan” to your Pin, then schedule it and queue it to your tribes.
2. ACTIVITY, ACTIVITY, ACTIVITY
Tailwind is an amazing resource – if you’re using it. Set aside an hour or two each week to schedule your pins for the week. Make sure you press “shuffle” when you’re done so pins from the same place get mixed up.
Then, hop into your Tailwind tribes for just 5 minutes each day. Add a post or two of your own, and repin 4-5 others. Building interesting boards on Pinterest from other posts from your Tribe will also improve the ranking of your profile (and thus, your pins) in Pinterest for others. Plus, you get to support your fellow #girlbosses!
