Our home was built in 1915 and has the most beautiful brass and glass knobs on some of the doors – but after more than 100 years as a family home, rental home, and even a brief term as the headquarters of the American Indian Center of Dallas, many of the home’s original knobs have been lost or severely damaged.
A COLLECTION OF ANTIQUE KNOBS IN OUR 100 YEAR OLD HOUSE
As part of our renovation efforts, we set out to match the look. You could spend months searching antique stores and home salvage yards and find nothing! Thankfully, we found dozens of vintage interior door knobs (or at least, lookalikes) at different price points that met our budget.
We chose these Weslock Impresa vintage interior door knobs for our carriage house, which is a new build that doesn’t have any original doors to match to. A standard Kwikset door knob (what you’re apt to see in many homes) is $18 at Home Depot, while this Weslock option (also at Home Depot, here) achieved the vintage look we wanted was a mere $26 with free shipping – for a much more expensive look!

Knob buying tip: Purchase privacy knobs for bedrooms and bathrooms, and passage knobs for closets.
In the main house, we decided to splurge a little more for the two first floor doors that were missing knobs (our master bedroom and bathroom). Nostalgic Warehouse’s Crystal Waldorf knob on a New York faux-key backplate was a near identical match for our 100 year old originals! And, the price was within our budget – less than $90 (with keyhole here / without keyhole here).
